Yes. Many reactive dogs can improve dramatically with the right mix of distance, structure, reward‑based training and calm boundaries. We focus on helping your dog feel safe first, then practise better choices in controlled setups before tackling busier real‑life walks. Progress is often gradual, but it is absolutely possible.
Not by default. For some dogs, off‑lead play with well‑matched friends can be helpful; for others, it simply rehearses over‑arousal or pushy behaviour. The first priority is teaching your dog they can walk past calmly on lead. Controlled setups – like our clinics and training walks – are much safer than busy public parks to start with
We usually recommend a standard flat lead (1.2–2m) and a flat collar or well‑fitted slip lead with stopper, plus plenty of soft, high‑value treats. Flexi leads and complex gadgets make timing and control much harder, especially when emotions are running high. The priority is fit, safety, and your ability to handle the dog calmly.
No. Reactivity is a mix of genetics, early experiences, environment, health and handling. While there may be training gaps to fill (and we’ll help you with those), blame doesn’t move anyone forward. We focus on what we can change now – your dog’s feelings about triggers, your handling skills, and the structure of your walks.
